Every California nursing board-approved program, medical school, dental school, and allied health program requires students to hold a current American Heart Association BLS certification before beginning clinical placements. California’s Board of Registered Nursing (BRN), the Medical Board of California, and the Dental Board of California each mandate AHA-recognized life support training as a condition of licensure and clinical participation. Without a valid BLS card, hospitals and clinics cannot legally allow you on the floor.
Unlike one-size-fits-all CPR classes, Safety Training Seminars designs its courses around the clinical demands of healthcare training programs. We know that nursing students at Samuel Merritt University face different credentialing timelines than dental students at UCSF or medical students at UC Davis. Our Self-Guided Learning™ format lets you complete the cognitive portion online between classes, then verify hands-on skills at a nearby CPR Verification Station™ in as little as 30 minutes.
Our AHA Course Completion eCard is accepted at Kaiser Permanente, UCSF Medical Center, UC Davis Health, Stanford Health Care, Dignity Health, Sutter Health, and hundreds of community hospitals statewide. Whether your rotation is at a large academic medical center or a rural community clinic, your certification will meet the requirement.
If your BLS or ACLS certification expires mid-program, our renewal pathway is the fastest in California. Complete the abbreviated HeartCode® renewal module online and verify skills in one 30-minute session. Many students bundle BLS + ACLS renewal or PALS + BLS renewal in a single appointment.
We offer on-site group certification sessions for nursing cohorts, simulation lab days, and healthcare orientation weeks. Contact our team to schedule AHA-certified BLS training directly at your school or affiliated clinical facility.
Common questions from nursing, medical, and dental students across California about getting AHA-certified at a student discount with Safety Training Seminars.
Yes. Simply bring a valid student ID or a current enrollment verification letter from your school. The discount applies to students enrolled in any of the 60+ partner nursing, medical, dental, or allied health programs listed above. No code or pre-registration is needed — present your ID at the skills session and the discount will be applied.
All California nursing programs require an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers certification. Our BLS course uses the official AHA HeartCode® Complete curriculum and is accepted by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN), every CSU nursing program, community college nursing program, and every hospital clinical site in the state. Red Cross or other non-AHA cards are not accepted at most clinical sites.
The cognitive portion of BLS (1–2 hours) is completed online at your own pace using the official AHA HeartCode® platform. However, the AHA requires a hands-on skills check with a certified instructor. This skills session takes just 30 minutes at one of our CPR Verification Stations™. Both steps together constitute the full certification — online-only “certifications” are not accepted by California hospitals or nursing boards.
Your AHA Course Completion eCard is issued the same day you pass the skills check. The eCard is delivered digitally and can be shared immediately with your clinical coordinator, program director, or hospital HR department. It is valid for 2 years and accepted by The Joint Commission, NCQA-accredited facilities, and all California state licensing boards.
Yes — our process is designed for exactly this situation. Complete the HeartCode® online module today (1–2 hours for BLS) and book a 30-minute skills check at a nearby location. Because eCards are issued same-day, you can have a valid AHA BLS certification in hand within 48 hours of deciding to start. We recommend booking your skills check immediately after completing the online portion.
Yes. Our AHA ACLS and PALS certifications are accepted at UCSF Medical Center, Stanford Health Care, UC Davis Health, and every other major academic medical center and community hospital in California. The American Heart Association eCard is the universal credential recognized by The Joint Commission and all California hospital credentialing departments. Both Initial and Renewal options are available.
